All you need to know about the new Stockholm to Berlin Night Train

Love sleeper trains? We’ve got all you need to know about the new Stockholm to Berlin night train that launches in June 2021

New night train

Swedish train operator Snälltåget will be launching a new sleeper train between Stockholm and Berlin on June 11 2021. The new line will travel between Stockholm, Malmo, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Berlin. This will be the first night train service to run on a regular basis between Sweden, Denmark and Germany since the 1990s.

Sleeper trains are going to be big news in Europe this year as we previously reported.

Sustainability is important to Snälltåget. They are happy to report that the service will be operated exclusively using renewable energy from solar, wind and hydroelectric sources.

‘This will be the first regular night train service to operate from Sweden, via Denmark, to Germany since the 1990s,’ says Carl Adam Holmberg, CEO of Snälltåget. ‘We have been operating night trains to Berlin since 2012 and we passionately believe in their potential.

‘This is why we are investing in more departures and a completely new route for the Berlin night train service in 2021.’

This is great news for the Stockholm to Berlin night train.

Timetable details

The southbound service will depart Stockholm at 16.20 and will arrive in Hamburg at 05.31 and Berlin at 08:52 the following day. The northbound service departs from Berlin 19.02 and Hamburg 23.26, to arrive in Stockholm at 14.19 the next day.

Trains will depart daily from Stockholm and Berlin throughout June, July and August, and will also operate as a weekend service in April, May and September.

What’s on board?

The overnight sleeper train will offer seating coaches and six-berth couchette compartments. A dining car will also be available between Stockholm and Malmö. Here you will be able to buy sandwiches, snacks, beer, wine and soft drinks  between Malmö and Berlin.

Sleeping options

Seat – this is the most affordable option. You have a reserved seat in an open saloon. If you’re travelling by yourself you’ll get your own seat and if you’re travelling together, you will get seats next to each other.

Recliner Seat – more comfort for solo travellers. You will travel in a comfortable chair that is wider than the regular seat. A pillow, pillowcase, blanket and a sheet is included in the price.

Private Compartment – for you and your travelling companions. You will have a private compartment for you or your travelling companions of up to six people. When you board, the compartment is in seat mode and when it is time for bed, you turn the seats into berths. In night mode, there are three berths on each side of the compartment and you can reach the upper berths with a ladder. Pillows, pillowcases, sheets, blankets and duvets for making the bed are included in the price.

What’s the cost?

One-way tickets starts from €49. You can buy the tickets from Snälltåget’s website.
