Hamburg Hauptbahnhof Station (Hamburg Hbf) is the main railway station in Germany’s port city of Hamburg and is the second busiest railway station in Europe after Paris’ Gare du Nord. The station was built in 1906 to replace four separate terminal stations in the city and today serves an average of 555,000 passengers a day. The train serves both international and long and short distance domestic trains and is a main access point for Hamburg’s U-Bahn and S-Bahn rapid transit network.
Inside is a hub of activity, from the impressive hall with 75 shops and restaurants open seven days a week to the Wandelhalle shopping centre occupying the north side of the station building.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof station itself is open 24 hours a day and many restaurants and food outlets are open until 23:00. Most shops shut at 21:30 and open between 07:00 and 09:00. The ticket office is open from 06:00 until 21:00 seven days a week.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof toilets and showers
Hamburg Hauptbahnhof has toilet facilities that are open from 05:00 until 22:00. Modernised in 2011, the WC facilities offer vanity areas, waterless urinals, disinfection dispensers, baby changing tables and disabled facilities. There are no public showers at the station.
Left luggage
Passengers looking to spend time in Hamburg can leave their luggage in the left luggage lockers, located on the footbridge near the stairs down to platform seven and near platform 14. Lockers are open 24 hours a day and can be hired for as little as €5.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof has a tourist information point that is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:00. On Mondays and Sundays travellers can reach the Sales & Service Centre from 9am to 7pm on +49 (0)40-300 51 701.
