Severn Valley Railway trains

Riding on the Severn Valley railway transports you back to the golden age of steam travel, where passengers ride in private compartments in charming antique surroundings. While some journeys include meals like lavish dinners and afternoon tea, these are not served aboard the train but instead served in The Engine Room. Locomotives take centre stage, and train enthusiasts  will be in their element on a Severn Valley train ride. There’s even the chance to drive a locomotive, with the railway selling special gift experiences to allow you to drive a full-sized steam or diesel locomotive on one of Britain’s most preserved railways.

Why we love it

The Severn Valley Railway is one of Britain’s most well-preserved, revered and loved heritage railways, rolling through beautiful countryside in the heart of England and offering special journeys suited to every passenger – think indulgent afternoon tea, child-friendly ghost trips and dinners and even the chance to privately charter a train. We love the stops in The Engine House and other Shropshire and Worcestershire towns, breaking up the journey and making a true day trip out of it.
