As the ever-changing landscapes of the countries pass by, the train makes regular stops for sightseeing, including a break at Irkutsk to visit beautiful Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest freshwater lake which stretches for nearly 400 miles through south-eastern Siberia. You will also get to visit the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar and travel through the vast landscapes of the Gobi Desert. Tsar’s Gold Trans-Siberian route

This journey allows guests to travel from either Moscow to Beijing or vice versa. The train travels on the original route of the Trans-Siberian from Russia’s iconic capital, with its grand palaces and cathedrals to traditional Siberian villages, wild Mongolia and finally on to Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. The journey’s route is as follows – Moscow – Kazan – Ekaterinburg – Novosibirsk – Irkutsk – Lake Baikal – Ulan Ude – Ulaanbaatar – Beijing. As well as daily escorted excursions, guests will also enjoy on-board lectures about the people and places they are visiting.

Decorated in traditional Russian style the interiors of the Tsar’s Gold Train feature plenty of polished wood and opulent soft furnishings. Big picture windows in both the dining and sleeper carriages offer guests endless opportunities to watch the ever-changing landscapes from the comfort of the train. With a distinctive mustard and maroon livery, you’ll find it easy to spot this train at the stations too.

The Tsar’s Gold Trans-Siberian train offers a full range of a sleeper carriages for couples as well as families. Alongside the luxury ‘Bolshoi’ class carriages, you’ll find four berth carriages too. Here’s what’s on offer –

Standard – these comfortable air-conditioned carriages sleep four guests in single bunk-style beds with personal reading lights. WCs and wash facilities are available outside the carriage.

Classic Class – these comfortable air-conditioned carriages offer more room than their standard class counterparts, with only two single berths in each cabin.  WCs and wash facilities are available outside the carriage.

Superior Class – these recently refurbished air-conditioned carriages feature two single lower berths. They have more storage than the first two categories. WCs and wash facilities are available outside the carriage.

Nostalgic Comfort Class – these newly built air-conditioned carriages sleep two passengers in large bunk style berths. They feature a semi-private WC with washing facilities and a shower which is shared between two cabins. You’ll find a WC at the end of each corridor.

Bolshoi Class – there are six air-conditioned carriages in this class. Each carriage sleeps two people in large bunk style berths. The carriages have plenty of storage room plus an ensuite WC and shower.

Bolshoi Platinum Class – there are only five carriages in this class. Each carriage sleeps two people in large bunk style berths. The carriages are bigger than the Bolshoi class and have plenty of storage plus an ensuite WC and shower.

Food and drink

As you’d expect on this five-star journey, guests are treated to some of Russia’s finest fare including borscht, dumplings and caviar in the train’s four dining cars. You’ll also find a bar service available – perfect for trying out Russia’s famed vodkas.

Guests on board this private Russian train are asked to bring smart/casual clothes with them, with many of them choosing to wear something smart for dinner. Day time wear for excursions is more casual and comfortable.

What’s included

All accommodation costs; three meals a day on board the train with one alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink with every meal; bottled water in every compartment; all tours with entrance fees. You will need to pay extra for visa fees, gratuities and additional drinks.

Pros and cons

There is no doubt that a trip on this amazing train will add massive points to your bucket list and it’s the perfect way to travel through three of the most amazing countries in the world. However, for the price, we would expect a more all-inclusive policy that makes all alcohol on board complimentary. We’d also like to see more carriages with ensuite bathrooms.
