A Guide to New Delhi Railway Station, India

New Delhi railway station is the busiest train station in India. Every day around 400 trains pass through the station and it is used by 500,000 people per day. You can board both local and international trains from this station which is situated two kilometres north of Connaught Place in central Delhi. There are many places to eat and drink at the station and you’ll also find free Wi-Fi here. There are plans in place to modernise this station in the near future, making it even better for passengers, both local and international.

There are toilet facilities on this station but no showers.

Left luggage

It’s easy to leave bags at the station cloakroom which is situated on Platform 1. You will need to show your ticket to leave any luggage. You will pay per bag and the price for the first 24 hours is 15 rupees. For the next 24 hours it will cost you an extra 10 rupees.

Information desk

There are plenty of information desks at New Delhi Station and the friendly staff all speak good English.

Food and drink

New Delhi Station has a very handy 24-hour food court on Platform 1 where passengers can enjoy fresh cooked dishes from around the world. The food court has six outlets including a Thai/China zone where you can enjoy dishes such as pad thai and sweet and sour chicken. The South Indian outlet offers plenty of veggie dishes and be sure to try out a delicious Indian ice cream at the Amul ice cream parlour. There’s also a very reasonably priced street food corner and a shop that sells water, beer and snacks.
